Let’s face it. All parents want to be — well great parents. As brave parents do, we feel the need to tackle every problem, every ache, every pain for our children. When a child is diagnosed with a developmental disorder like autism, the desire to fix things becomes even greater.

Improving Autism with CBD

What is autism? Autism is a neurological disorder influencing social skills and development. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics, it affects one in 40 American children today. Many children with autism have trouble interacting with others, and some display unique patterns of behavior like reverent motions.

While specialists don’t know the cause of autism — environmental and genetic factors can play a significant role. And while there’s no cure for autism, a variety of interventions, such as occupational and speech therapies, can minimize the severity of symptoms.

One of the most controversial combinations trending today is CBD and autism. Studies have shown that CBD has demonstrated a refinement in a variety of physical and mental health conditions, such as pain relief, stress and anxiety, ADHD, autism, and more.

In an April 2018 study of over 50 children published in Neurology, Israeli researchers cited that CBD oil reduced autism-induced behavioral, communication, and anxiety problems.

This propelled parents across the globe to start using CBD oil to help autistic children. Many claim it provides a helping hand in normalizing emotions — promotes better sleep, and ultimately controls autism symptoms. What once was a blur for many parents — the message today is clear. CBD can be a frontline treatment for autism.

CBD and Autism: Limited to Observational Studies

An exception to the observational studies is Epidiolex, a highly purified form of cannabidiol, a non-intoxicating component of the Cannabis sativa, the most common medical marijuana plant.

Following extensive clinical testing, Epidiolex recently received Food and Drug Administration approval for the treatment of seizures associated with two rare syndromes that share some features of autism.

Since parents have started using CBD products to help ease the war inside their children caused by autism, evidence has been overwhelmingly positive — with some parents reporting that their children begin to exhibit a calming nature. Other parents report decreased instances of physical violence.

CBD for anger and aggression is a distinct, viable option for many parents who have tried medications traditionally used to help children with autism. As more studies are completed on CBD hemp oil and autism, researchers will be able to adequately instruct how CBD interacts with the brain of an autistic child and why it is so effective.
